Following an on field incident on December 12, Brian McKenzie sustained a critical brain injury following an accidental ball strike and has tragically passed away.
During the 3rd Division match between Coomealla Wentworth and Merbein South Cricket Clubs, Brian was umpiring when a ball was thrown in at the end of an over, accidentally striking him in the side of the head. Brian was rushed to Mildura Hospital where he underwent an emergency procedure and was subsequently flown to Melbourne where he underwent surgery and was placed in an induced coma. Despite best efforts Brian passed away on Tuesday.
Brian passed in the presence of family at Royal Melbourne Hospital. The Sunraysia Cricket community sends its condolences to Gloria and the McKenzie family.
